About The Cedar

The Cedar was a 1950s motor court on Sandusky Bay — a roadside stop for travelers heading to Cedar Point. The bones haven't changed: compact rooms, exterior doors, original footprint. What's different is everything inside. Each of the 12 rooms has been reimagined around a single idea — a writer's retreat, a captain's cabin, a vinyl lounge — with curated decor, fresh linens, and details you'd expect from a small boutique hotel rather than a 50s motel.
If you want wide hallways and a fitness center, we're not it. If you want bay views, character, and a stay that feels like somewhere instead of anywhere, you're in the right place.
Know Before You Book
A micro resort, not a hotel.
We're a self check-in property — small, character-forward, and run lean. Here's what that actually means for your stay.
Self check-in. No front desk.
You'll get your door code by text before your check-in time and head straight to your room. Every room has a smart lock, so there are no keys to pick up, no front desk, and no one waiting to check you in — staff are on property if you need anything, but the experience is yours from the moment you arrive.
Smart TV, no cable.
Every room has a Smart TV with all the major streaming apps — but the easiest move is to cast or AirPlay from your phone. Sign in to your own Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, or Prime. No cable; streaming only.
The Cedar Chest.
Coffee lives in your room — every room has its own coffee maker, so you can brew a cup without leaving. Need extra towels, soap, or toilet paper? The Cedar Chest is stocked and open around the clock. It's the old front office, now self-serve; you'll get the code along with your door code. There are books, magazines, and games in there too, if the weather turns.
Check-in
3:00 PM. Your door code arrives by text. Park anywhere on the property — no assigned spots.
Check-out
11:00 AM. Just close the door behind you — we handle the rest.

Tique's Bar
— a waterfront gathering place.
Named in tribute to Bay View's waterski heritage and the Ski Nautique boats that carved these waters, Tique's is a public-facing bar open to guests and neighbors alike. Craft cocktails, local beer, sunsets on the bay.
Fall Hours
Last call for the season — join us Fridays from 2:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM, until sunset, weather permitting, through October (closed Monday through Thursday). Open to everyone — no room key required.
